COMPRESSOR Reference the compressor replacement design. Please provide design of the new compressor’s anchorage for seismic forces per ASCE 7-05, Chapter 13. This item can be deferred. Comment remains. It doesn't appear as if a response has been provided. Will this item be deferred? WAB - 6/25/2015

Comment resolved. Item has been deferred. MMP - 12/23/2015

MOMENT FRAME Reference detail 12 on sheet 141925-D of the drawings. Single sided fillets or partial penetration welds are not permitted to be used to resist tension due to seismic forces per AISC 341-05 section 11.2a(3). These connections must be designed for an R=1 (maximum force that can be delivered by the system) or 1.1*Ry*Mp of the column or beam whichever is smallest. Reference AISC 341-05 section 11.2a. Comment remains. No new drawings have been provided with a revised moment frame connection. It appears that single sided fillet welds are still shown on the drawings. See the detail referenced by the original comments. WAB - 6/25/2015

Comment resolved. Revised drawings show double-sided fillets for all connections. MMP - 12/23/2015

ANCHORAGE AT FRAMES

The anchorage at frames must meet ACI 318-05 Appendix D including the ductile or non ductile yielding requirements of sections D3.3.4 through D3.3.6.

Comment resolved. The calculation that has been provided doesn't include a non ductile yielding factor, but appears to be stressed very low so it shouldn't make a difference. WAB - 6/25/2015

USE OF ANTHONY DOOR FRAMES Reference the design. The design calls for the use of Anthony Door Frames for lateral resistance in the long direction. Please provide substantiating data showing these frames are acceptable. The test data provided appears to cover a specific height, and can not be readily adapted to the much taller height on this project. It’s possible another system is being used since there appears to be HSS 4X4 seismic columns called out in the details, but this isn’t clear from the design. Please indicate the frames on the drawings including all material specifications, connections, etc. Reference AAC section 23.10.104.8 and IBC section 1703.4. Comment remains. It appears the calculations indicate that cantilever columns are being used to transfer the seismic forces. Please verify that this is the case. It also doesn't appear as if the material specifications for all materials used on the project has been indicated. Please provide. WAB - 6/25/2015

Comment remains. The drawings need to indicate what the intended structural system is (which appears from the calculations to be a cantilevered column system). In addition, the material specifications have not been identified for welds (electrode type, CVN requirements, etc.) and bolts used for the structural system. MMP - 12/23/2015 Note: An item that was not addressed with review and response for using cantilevered columns is that the structural system appears to be subject to temperatures below 50 deg. F. As such, the lowest anticipated service temperature (LAST) also needs to be indicated, and any weld CVN temperature requirements need to be coordinated with the service temperature. See AISC 341 Section 5.1 (6)

STATEMENT OF SPECIAL INSPECTIONS

Please provide a statement of special inspections as required by IBC section 1705. The statement of special inspections must include both the type and frequency of inspection.

Comment resolved. Response accepted. A statement of special inspection has now been included. WAB - 6/25/2015

SPECIAL INSPECTORS Please provide a letter from the Owner indicating who they will be hiring to provide the special inspections for this project. The special inspectors must be licensed by MOA in the types of inspections to be performed. Reference IBC section 1703.1. Comment remains. No response provided. WAB - 6/25/2015
