Refer to Sheet S0.1. Please note on the plans the required special inspections for masonry construction; the exceptions per IBC Section 1704.5 do not appear to be met.

Refer to Detail 4/S3.1, Calculations Pg. 11-12, 17. Please address the following:
a. The calculations on Pg. 11 show the strongback horizontal girt deflections well in excess of allowable. Please justify, or provide revised design.
b. Please justify the design of the out-of-plane condition for the vertical strongback and for the masonry itself. The calculation for the HSS strongback on Pg. 12 does not account for the full height the column (which appears to be approximately 24 ft). The masonry analysis on Pg. 17 appears to assume fixity at the base, but does not address the moment capacity of the base condition, and how the moments are resisted at the foundation.

11/5/15 - Resolved. Revised analysis and details provided. MMP

4AMC 23.10.104.8.1Construction documents shall be of sufficient clarity to indicate the location, nature, and extent of the work proposed and show in detail that the work will conform to the provisions of this code.Resolved
Refer to Detail 5/S3.1. Please provide connection design for the top and bottom of the strongback column.

11/5/15 - Resolved. Connection design calculations provided.  MMP

Refer to Detail 6/S3.1. Please clarify the frost protection of the foundation adjacent to the cooler located along the new exterior wall. It is not clear that sufficient building heat can be maintained, or is needed as the case may be, for this extent of the foundation.
Reference: IBC Section 1809.5; ASCE 32 Section Table 1

11/5/15 - Not resolved. The frost protection depth per local amendment is under the assumption of a properly heated foundation. There is no consideration given for the temperatures imposed on the foundation by a cooler/freezer, or by the insulating effects of such construction keeping building heat from the affected foundation areas. Please clarify design. MMP
