Advisory Information:

. C(1): This project's design drawings and calculations are confusing and incomplete. Please provide complete drawings and calculations showing in detail how forces transfer into and through the structure into foundations through a complete and code-compliant load path. Every member and every connection in the load path must be detailed with supporting calculations showing compliance with code requirements, including the aluminum code requirements. See IBC 1604.4, paragraphs 3 and 4. A detailed review will not begin until such drawings and calculations are submitted. 11-21-03 This comment has not been satisfied. The engineer's response was limited to only section property issues while the comment represented a general problem with the whole design submittal. A complete design of structural members has not yet been submitted. To repeat my previous comment "EVERY MEMBER AND EVERY CONNECTION IN THE LOAD PATH MUST BE DETAILED WITH SUPPORTING DESIGN CALCULATIONS SHOWING COMPLIANCE WITH C C(2): ALUMINUM CODE Calculations need to follow ASM 35 of the Aluminum Association in accordance with IBC Chapter 20. Show that all applicable code sections have been addressed. 11-21-03 The response indicates that the Aluminum code was used in the design. This is not true. None of the calculations done by computer, either with RISA or Enercalc were based on the Aluminum Code. They have all been based on formulas and criteria from the Steel Code. THE ALUMINUM CODE MUST BE USED FOR THE DESIGN OF ALL ALUMINUM MEMBERS AND CONNECTIONS. The ENERCALC spread sheet is entitled STEEL BEAM DESIGN and specifically states that "Calculations are designed to AISC 9th Edition ASD and 1997 UBC Requirements. These calculations are based on the Steel code and outdated UBC requirements. The currently adopted code is 2000 IBC. All design calculations done in the RISA computer program are based on Steel design formulas, which do not apply to Aluminum members. At the top of the first page of the firs
