1) STATUS: 4-17-2018 Comments to be addressed. 4-30-2018 COMMENTS TO BE ADDRESSED.
2) The following comments based upon the 2012 International Building, Mechanical and Fuel Gas Codes must be resolved before a permit is issued. The approval of plans and specifications does not permit the violation of any section of the IBC, IMC, IFGC or any federal, state or local regulations. RESOLVED 4-30-2018
3) M5 EF-1 will be exhausting 2,100 CFM during business hours. Clarify the makeup air required per IMC 501.4. 4-30-2018 UNRESOLVED. THE MAIN ENTRANCE FROM THE MALL HAS A SET OF DOUBLE DOORS WHICH FOR VENTILATION PURPOSES ARE TO BE CONSIDERED AS BEING IN THE CLOSED POSITION. ALSO YOU WOULD NEED A LETTER OF APPROVAL FROM THE MALL OWNER AGREEING TO THE USE AND ADDED EXPENSE OF PAYING FOR THE COSTS OF HEATING THE MAKEUP AIR SUPPLIED BY THEIR CENTRAL UNIT(S).
4) M5 The drying table requires ventilation also. (IMC Table 403.3 footnote "h") 4-30-2018 UNRESOLVED. IMC TABLE 403.3 FOOTNOTE "h" REQUIRES THE EXHAUST AT EACH NAIL STATION. THIS IS A NAIL DRYING STATION WHERE THE NAILS WILL BE OFF-GASSING UNTIL THEY ARE COMPLETELY DRY.
5) M5 Advisory comment: The main rooms for doing nails require 6/10ths of a CFM of exhaust per square foot of floor area (approximately 770 CFM). This may also include the exhaust at the nail tables. 4-30-2018 IECC SECTION C101.3 INTENT "THIS CODE SHALL REGULATE THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDINGS FOR THE EFFECTIVE USE AND CONSERVATION OF ENERGY OVER THE USEFUL LIFE OF EACH BUILDING." IF 500 CFM OF EXHAUST IS REQUIRED FOR THE NAIL APPLICATION STATIONS, 100 CFM FOR THE NAIL DRYING STATIONS AND 100 CFM FOR THE WAX ROOM, THEN ALL THAT WOULD BE REQUIRED IS AN ADDITIONAL 70 CFM EXHAUST TO MEET TOTAL IMC REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS NAIL SALON. WITH 2,100 CFM BEING EXHAUSTED, IT APPEARS THAT THE ENERGY TO HEAT THE DIFFERENCE OF 1330 CFM WORTH OF MAKEUP AIR MAKES IT A WASTEFUL PRACTICE THAT IS NOT IN AGREEMENT WITH THE INTENT OF THE ENERGY CODE.
6) M5 Clarify the occupancy of the individual back rooms and associated ventilation requirements per IMC 403.3. THE OFFICE AND BREAKROOM REQUIRE VENTILATION THAT INCLUDES OUTSIDE AIR PER IMC 403 AND SHOULD NOT BE DRAWING AIR FROM THE NAIL ROOMS PER IMC TABLE 403.3 FOOTNOTE "b".
7) M5 Sheet note #2 says there are 11 stations. We only count 10 for 500 CFM total. RESOLVED PER RE-SUBMITTAL RECEIVED 4-26-2018.
8) M5 The equivalent dryer duct length is well over the maximum 35' allowed per IMC 504.6.4.1. RESOLVED PER RE-SUBMITTAL RECEIVED 4-26-2018.
9) ME-6 During the cold winter months the metal ducts through the roof will have a tendency to have condensation when not in use due to conduction. (IMC 603.12) RESOLVED PER RE-SUBMITTAL RECEIVED 4-26-2018.
10) When the above comments have been addressed, please update the plans at the MOA Plans Review Office with three sets of revised mechanical pages to include clouded changes, engineers stamp and signature. RE-SUBMITTALS ARE TO BE DIRECTED TO THE ATTENTION OF THE PERMIT MANAGER WITH A LETTER OF RESPONSE ADDRESSING EACH COMMENT. (23.10.104.8.1)
