ADVISORY COMMENT (NO RESPONSE REQUIRED)
This review is based on the requirements of the Anchorage Municipal Code (AMC), 2012 International Building Code (IBC), 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) and all adopted references thereto as amended by MOA. The following comments must be addressed before a permit can be issued. The approval of plans and specifications does not permit the violation of the codes, or any federal, state or local regulations.
2. STEEL JOISTS
The hanging loads from the existing joists don’t appear to occur at joist panel points. Typically, a concentrated load away from a panel point in excess of 100 lbs usually needs to consider local bending effects on the chord. Has the joist manufacturer been consulted regarding this condition, or were provisions made in the original design for additional concentrated loads?
[Reference: SJI-COSP-2010 § 2.3]
09/27/2017 – Comment remains. It’s not clear where the information in the response came from, nothing was attached. Please provide verifying information. Additionally, calculation sheet S-5 also lists the allowable load of 72DLH14 of 800 plf. It’s not clear where this is from either. SJI-100 tables lists the maximum allowable load of 72DLH14 joists for spans less than 85 ft as 462 plf. This is very close to the design roof load without additional loading. (In contrast from the 24LH06 joists at the location in the original calculations which seem to have significant load in addition to the roof incorporated.) Please clarify the joist designs.
3. PLANE ATTACHMENTS
Has the strength of the lifting eye connections to the aircraft been quantified by calculations or testing?
[Reference: AMC § 23.10.104.10]
09/27/2017 – Comment remains. It’s not clear from the response whether these attachment points on the aircraft are part of the manufactured aircraft or post-installed for this specific purpose. If they are certified by the FAA, please provide documentation of this approach.
Please provide a written response to the comments and include one copy of additional or revise calculations, and two copies of additional or revised drawings. While not required it is extremely helpful to the reviewer if the response indicates where in the submittal each comments has been addressed.
All submittals should be sent to the permit manager.
