09/01/2017 – Initial review complete. Comments issued.

09/15/2017 – Second review complete. Additional comments issued.

ADVISORY COMMENT (NO RESPONSE REQUIRED)

This review is based on the requirements of the Anchorage Municipal Code (AMC), 2012 International Building Code (IBC), 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) and all adopted references thereto as amended by MOA. The following comments must be addressed before a permit can be issued. The approval of plans and specifications does not permit the violation of the codes, or any federal, state or local regulations.

1. STRUCTURAL CALCULATIONS

The structural calculations provided are dated from 2012. The plan provided on sheet S-2 of the calculation package depicts the display in a location that doesn’t match the plans provided on 1/S1. Please provide calculations evaluating the display’s expected position or clarify the intent of the calculations.

09/15/2017 – Comment resolved. New calculations provided.

2. STEEL JOISTS

The hanging loads from the existing joists don’t appear to occur at joist panel points. Typically, a concentrated load away from a panel point in excess of 100 lbs usually needs to consider local bending effects on the chord. Has the joist manufacturer been consulted regarding this condition, or were provisions made in the original design for additional concentrated loads?

[Reference: SJI-COSP-2010 § 2.3]

3. PLANE ATTACHMENTS

Has the strength of the lifting eye connections to the aircraft been quantified by calculations or testing?

[Reference: AMC § 23.10.104.10]

4. TRUSS

From the overall plan 1/S0 and sheet S-2 of the calculation package, it appears (from the end symbols) the truss “C1-13-S” on gridline CCD forms a moment frame. Is this element part of the seismic force resisting system for the building? Do the original construction documents have any prohibitions on adding attachments to members of the SFRS?

Please provide a written response to the comments and include one copy of additional or revise calculations, and two copies of additional or revised drawings. While not required it is extremely helpful to the reviewer if the response indicates where in the submittal each comments has been addressed.

All submittals should be sent to the permit manager.
