Center – North Entry

1.  PERMIT STATUS

7-22-2017– Permit reviewed. Comments issued.

2.  Advisory Comment (no response required):  This review is based on the requirements of
the 2012 Anchorage Administrative Code (AMC 23.10), 2012 International Building
Code (IBC), and all adopted references thereto as amended by MOA. The following
comments must be addressed before a permit can be issued. The approval of plans
and specifications does not permit the violation of the codes, or any federal,
state or local regulations.

Please submit a
written explanation for how each comment has been addressed.

3.  CUM WALL – SEISMIC - Advisory Comment (no response required):  The seismic notes on Sheet S0.10 indicate
that this structure has is a Special Masonry Bearing/Shear Wall system with an R
= 5.  The existing CMU does not appear to
be a “special” one.  To qualify as a “special”
CMU it would need to be shown that it complies with all the appropriate
detailing requirements.

This structure attaches to the existing CMU wall.  The most important seismic loads are
perpendicular to the shear wall, not parallel to it.  In the outward direction an R = 2 would seem
more appropriate.

Either way, the attachments to the structure appear to be
adequate.

4.  SEISMIC ATTACHMENT AT ROOF

Please provide calculations to show the code compliant
load path that transfers the roof seismic load to the adjacent existing
structure.

5.  DETAIL 8/S5.02 – CANOPY TO CMU WALL

This detail takes place very close to the bottom of the
CMU wall at the door opening see 2/A4.1.
Please provide clarification and calculations to show how this
out-of-plane load is resisted by the CMU wall in bending since it is so close
to the opening.  The load has to transfer
through the CMU to points of resistance.

6.  CANOPY – PROVIDE SECTION CUT SHOWING
RELATIONSHIP OF W8X24, METAL DECK, AND THE MASONRY WALL

Provide a section cut showing the relationship of the
W8x24, metal deck, and the masonry wall.
The drawings show 6/S5.02 Sim.
This detail is not appropriate because there is a masonry wall at this
location, not a stud wall.

7.  DRILLED IN ANCHOR BOLTS (DIAB)

The drawings call for DIAB into masonry.  The General Notes on sheet S0.01 do not have
a Drill-in Anchor Bolts specification.
Instead there is a Drill-in Adhesive Anchor designation (DIAA).  Please clarify.
