1. PERMIT STATUS
3-24-2017 – Permit reviewed. Comments issued.
2. Advisory Comment (no response required): This review is based on the requirements ofthe 2012 Anchorage Administrative Code (AMC 23.10), 2012 International BuildingCode (IBC), and all adopted references thereto as amended by MOA. The following comments must be addressedbefore a permit can be issued. The approval of plans and specifications doesnot permit the violation of the codes, or any federal, state, or localregulations.
Please submit awritten explanation for how each comment has been addressed.
3. FRAMING BENEATH THE MID-HEIGHT FLOOR LANDINGPLATE –
SHEET E101
This drawing shows some kind of framing beneath thelanding plate, parallel to the stringers. It does not show the framing detailed on Sheet M7, which isperpendicular to the stringers. Pleaseclarify.
4. BENT PLATES THAT STIFFEN THE FLOOR LANDINGPLATE –
SHEET M7 – TRIBUTARYWIDTH
The detail on Sheet M7 shows the plate with a 12 inchcantilever from a 1.5x1.5 bent plate. Thecalculations seem to assume attachment to something. If the plate is attached to some adjacentframing, please show where this attachment is found in the details. Otherwise revise the calculations on page 1.
5. BENT PLATES THAT STIFFEN THE FLOOR LANDINGPLATE –
SHEET M7 - CAPACITY
See page 1. Thecalculation of I and Z are not correct. The working stress neutral axis was calculated as 1.33 inches from thebottom the 1.5 x 1.5 bent plate. Thiscannot be correct. This is well belowthe mass of the steel which consists of the plate and the horizontal leg of thebent plate. The actual working-stressaxis is just below the floor plate, barely in the horizontal leg of the bentplate.
In the y-bar calculation, the y-distance of the first twocomponents was measured from the bottom, while the y-distance of the 3rdcomponent was incorrectly measured from the top.
Deflection – It is not clear where the 110 plf comesfrom. However, using this load thedeflection calculation for the bent plate does not work. The calculations show that I = 0.191 isrequired, but the actual I equals about 0.148.
The plastic section modulus Z is also not correct. The calculations show Z = 0.36. I could not see how this was determined. The actual Z is about 0.22. Other calculations show that only 0.193 wasrequired, so this seems to be okay.
6. ATTACHEMENT OF BENT PLATE ANGLES TO STAIRSTRINGERS
Sheet M7 shows 1.5x1.5 and 3x8 bent plates. Please show on the drawings where these areattached to the stair stringers.
7. COLUMN BASE PLATES
Please clarify base plate details on Sheet D7. It looks like there is a combination ofsquare and rectangular baseplates.
Please show the relationship of the square baseplates tothe rectangular base plate. Why is thereonly one rectangular base plate?
Is the orientation of the rectangular baseplate reallyperpendicular to the braces?
8. TUBE-TO-TUBE WELDS –
SHEET D7
Please show the size of tube-to-tube welds.
9. DETAILS A AND C –
The drawings show these as new details. If the connection details have been changedfrom the already-approved details in the main submittal for C16-1993, pleasecompletely detail them and provide calculations for all limit states.
10. ENGINEER’S STAMP REQUIRED
Please stamp all drawings with design information.
