2.  Advisory Comment (no response required):  This review is based on the requirements of the
2012 Anchorage Administrative Code (AMC 23.10), 2012 International Building
Code (IBC), and all adopted references thereto as amended by MOA. The following
comments must be addressed before a permit can be issued. The approval of plans
and specifications does not permit the violation of the codes, or any federal,
state or local regulations.



 



Please submit a
written explanation for how each comment has been addressed.



 



3.  AUGMENTED COMPOSITE BEAMS W/ WT 5x – NUMBER OF
STUDS



Detail 6/S5.03 shows the studs in existing concrete.  The calculations depend on the number of
existing studs.  Please provide the basis
for using the number of shear studs shown in the calculations.  There was no information on the drawings that
were submitted.  The number of studs per
foot varied widely on the different beams. 
W16x26 – 18 studs – 32 foot span. 
W12x14 – 21 studs – 21 foot span. 
W14x22 – 22 studs – 27 foot span.



 



4.  AUGMENTED COMPOSITE BEAMS W/ WT 5x – MOMENT
CAPACITY



It was not clear how the moment capacities of these augmented
composite beams were calculated.  Please
provide a step-by-step hand calculation for the W16x26 beam.

contact engineer of record for (E) W bm connection to W24.”  This can be a deferred submittal, but the
design and connection details need to be submitted for review before the
connection is made.

Please provide these connection designs and details.



 



7.  EXISTING COLUMNS AND FOUNDATIONS



Provide calculations to check capacity of existing
columns and foundations to resist the new loads.



 



8.  STRUCTURAL NOTES



There are many notes including special inspection notes that
do not apply to this project.  Please
delete them.  Revise notes so they are
specific to this project.



 



9.  STATEMENT OF SPECIAL INSPECTION



Please provide special inspection requirements specifically
for this project.  See AMC 23.105.105.1.



 



10.  LETTER INDICATING WHO IS HIRING THE SPECIAL
INPECTOR



Please provide a letter from the owner stating who he
is hiring to do the Special Inspection.



Only the owner or the design professional acting for the
owner can hire the Special Inspector.  See IBC, 1704.2, paragraph 1.



 



11.  SPECIAL INSPECTION AND TESTING AGREEMENT



Please fill out and submit a signed copy of the Special
Inspection and Testing Agreement.  Attach
a copy of the special inspection requirement specific to this project before
the agreement is signed.  The purpose of
this agreement is so that all who are involved in the project know the extent
of the special inspection.  This
agreement can be found beginning on page 7 of the Special Inspection Program
