Advisory Information:
DEFERRED SUBMITTAL STATUS
3/16/2016 - Deferred submittal reviewed. Comments issued.
4/19/2016 - Responses reviewed. Comments issued.
1. DIAPHRAGM
Please clarify what is acting as the diaphragm for this mezzanine. If the grating is being used please provide a research report from an approved third party showing the capacity of the grating as a diaphragm as required by IBC section 1803.4.
Comment remains. The response can be accepted if it can be shown that the grating has a material specification covered under AISC 360-10 section A3. Otherwise an approved third party report will be required. WAB - 4/19/2016
2. HSS COLUMN
AISC 341-10 section E6.5a requires columns in cantilever column systems to be highly ductile per AISC 341-10 section D1.1. The HSS 6X6X1/4 columns do not appear to meet the requirements for a highly ductile member. Please clarify.
Comment remains. Response not accepted. The response does not appear to address the comment. This is a prescriptive requirement, and has nothing to do with available strength. There are no exceptions either. In fact, the section in question applies specifically to these types of structures. WAB - 4/19/2016
3.COLUMN BRACING
AISC 341-10 section E6.4b requires columns to be braced the satisfy the requirements of beams classified as moderately ductile members as indicated in section D1.2a. Please show that this requirement is met.
Comment remains. Response not accepted. How does the proposed bracing meet section D1.2a(3)? Please clarify.
4. SEISMIC SEPARATION
Please provide a seismic separation between the existing and new mezzanine or tie the mezzanines together to act as a unit as required by ASCE 7-10 section 12.12.3.
Comment remains. The proposed separations is okay; however this will need to be detailed architecturally. WAB - 4/19/2016
5. COLLECTORS
All beam to column connections collect seismic forces. Please indicate the connections are to be fully pretensioned with the faying surfaces prepared as Class A slip critical or better as required by AISC 341-10 section D2.2(4).
Comment remains. Response not accepted. All beams are collectors because all columns are vertical lateral resisting elements. The lateral loads do not transfer directly from the diaphragm into the columns. They transfer into the beams and from the beams to the columns. WAB - 4/19/2016
Please provide a written response to the comments above and include two copies of additional or revised drawings and one copy of addition or revised calculations.
