Advisory Comment (no response required):  This review is based on the requirements of the Anchorage Administrative Code (AAC), 2009 International Building Code (IBC), 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) and all adopted references thereto as amended by MOA. The following comments must be addressed before a permit can be issued. The approval of plans and specifications does not permit the violation of the codes, or any federal, state or local regulations.

DESIGN OF ANCHORS

Reference page 192 of the calculations. Where punching shear is checked, the capacity appears to be 196304 lbs of capacity with a Vu = 262600 lbs, but the design indicates “OK.” Please clarify. Please note that f’c on this design appears to be 3000 psi where elsewhere the strength has been taken as 4000 psi. It may be beneficial to be consistent with the concrete strengths.

LATERAL AT FOUNDATION

It appears the intent from the design is to transfer the shear loads into the combined footings. Please provide substantiating data showing the footings have enough combined friction and passive pressure on them to resist the lateral loads or clarify the load path for the lateral loads into the soil. Reference ASCE -05 section 12.1.3.

DRIFT

Reference the calculations. Please clarify where in the calculations drift have been checked. Please keep in mind that where the structure has a type 1a or type 1b horizontal irregularity that ASCE 7-05 section 12.12.1 must be met for drift.

MOMENT FRAME CONNECTION

Reference detail 229 on sheet RS403 of the drawings. It appear that the moment connection on the pop up roof is a seismic-resisting-frame. Please verify. If it is the moment connection provided does not appear to provide the 1.1*Ry*Mp of the beam in capacity in the connection as required by AISC 341-05 section 11.2a (a full penetration weld will need to be installed with a reinforcing fillet to develop that load).

DRAWING CLARIFICATIONS
Reference the drawings. Please provide the following:

A. Reference sheet RS202. Please provide details or reference to details for the beam to beam connection between grids R-A and R-B and grids R-D and R-E on grid R-2. Reference AISC 303-05 section 3.1.2.

B. Reference sheet RS202. Please provide details or reference to details for the beam/joist to beam connections between R-F and F-G and on grid F-2. Reference AISC 303-05 section 3.1.2.

C. Reference sheet RS202. There is a detail cut between grids R-2 and R-3 and grids R-F and R-G that references detail 213. Please verify this detail applies here (this detail does not appear to show the deck running the correct direction). Reference AAC section 23.10.104.8.

D. Reference detail 208 section C on sheet RS401. The weld connecting the tube steel to the steel beam has been indicated as a fillet weld. It appears this should be a flare bevel weld. Please clarify. Reference AAC section 23.10.104.8.

E. Reference detail 2206 sect B on sheet RS403. The weld connecting the tube steel to the steel beam has been indicated as a fillet weld. It appears this should be a flare bevel weld. Please clarify. Reference AAC section 23.10.104.8.
