PERMIT STATUS
5/22/2014 – Review complete. Comments issued.
Advisory Comment (no response required): This review is based on the requirements of the Anchorage Administrative Code (AAC), 2009 International Building Code (IBC), 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) and all adopted references thereto as amended by MOA. The following comments must be addressed before a permit can be issued. The approval of plans and specifications does not permit the violation of the codes, or any federal, state or local regulations.
1. Please indicate that special inspections are required on the post installed anchors. The calculations indicate that the anchors were designed without special inspections; however this option is not available for Tru-bolt + anchors. Per the ICC ES report ESR-2427 section 4.4 special inspections is required. Please indicate this on the drawings. Reference IBC section 1704.15
2. Please indicate on the drawings the special inspection requirements for the concrete, CMU and welding or indicate that special inspections are not required this work. Reference IBC section 1705. Special inspections on welding can only be excluded if the welds are less than 50% stress and are installed by AWS certified welders. This must be indicated on the drawings per the Anchorage Amendments to the IBC section 23.15.1704.3
3. Please provide a letter from the Owner indicating who they will be hiring to provide the special inspections for this project. The special inspector(s) must be licensed by MOA in the type(s) of inspection(s) to be performed. Reference IBC section 1703.1.
4. Reference sheet S1.1 of the drawings. Please clarify where the connection of the new C6X8.2 to the new wide flange beams has been provided. It appears there is a note in detail 2 that indicates a welded connection between new and existing elements, but nothing could be located for the new to new element condition. Please note that it is not clear what the end condition of the W8X10 is either. Is this bearing on something? Is the C6X8.2 there to provide rotation restraint? If not please provide rotational restraint as required by AISC 360-05 section 6.3.
5. Reference sheet S1.1 of the drawings. Please provide the attachment of the new grating to the new framing. Reference section 23.10.104.8.
