06/21/2012 - Reviewed responses (295471).  Approved for structural frame.  Exterior may not be installed until deferred submittal re: ductwork support at exterior wall is submitted and approved.

GENERAL

This review is code compliance review based on the requirements of the International Building Code (IBC), 2009 Edition, and all adopted references thereto, as amended by the Municipality of Anchorage in Anchorage Municipal Code (AMC) Title 23.  This review does not permit the violation of the building codes, nor any federal, state, or municipal regulation.

The following comments must be addressed before a permit may be issued.

1. STATEMENT OF SPECIAL INSPECTIONS

Please provide a detailed statement of special inspections in accordance with IBC Chapter 17. This may be provided on the plans or as a separate document.

2. SPECIAL INSPECTION PERSONNEL

Please provide a letter from the Owner/Owner's Representative, or Special Inspection Agency stating that the Special Inspection Agency has been retained by the Owner to provide special inspection services for the project as required by IBC Chapter 17.

3. COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF INSULATION

Please clarify the required compressive strength of the insulation, and provide design analysis verifying the adequacy of the insulation and soil bearing strata.

4. SUPPORT OF INLET/OUTLET DUCTWORK AT BUILDING ENVELOPE

Refer to Sheets SS-2003, ME-2033, ME-2034, CBC Drawings Sheet 2/6.  Please address the following:

a. Sheet ME-2033 refers to Sheet SS-2003 for support of ductwork, but neither the mechanical or structural drawings provide locations for such supports.  Please provide.

b. The pre-engineered building drawings do not provide any details for framing the larger inlet/outlet ducts; the secondary framing elevations show no large openings along Grids A and E.  Please provide.

c. There do not appear to be any considerations for falling snow/ice from the roof system onto the ductwork hoods.  Please clarify.
