Advisory Information:

If there is an ICC interpretation allowing the door hardware setup as detailed please provide for further consideration.  See comment below

1.  IFC 1008.1.9.8 for electromagnetically locked egress doors requires the "listed hardware" to incorporate a built in switch, be affixed to the door leaf & readily operable under all lighting conditions, and capable of being operated with one hand.  "The Push to Exit" button is a piece of listed hardware typically used on access controlled egress doors as a failsafe release or used on ADA doors to operate same.  IFC 1008.1.9.8 does not require this device nor allows it to be considered as the door leaf hardware.  Since the pull handle as shown on your drawing does not incorporate a built in switch operating the door requires the use of more than one hand, would require special knowledge and effort, and most likely is not readily operated under all lighting conditions.  Door hardware installations are such that the location and method of operation would be readily known to all users.  Your device does not meet this requirement.

As discussed over the phone, since this is a new code section and if you disagree with my application you may request in writing an interpretation from the "Fire Code Official" (Acting Fire Marshall James Gray) as allowed under IFC 104.1.  The fire marshall can be reached @ grayjd@muni.org
