Advisory Information:

. C(1): Status: Comments to be resolved - 10-23-08. Comments to be resolved 11-6-08. Please resolve comment number 3 for approval, 11-19-08. Approved 11-24-08. C(2): The following comments based on the 2006 International Building Code (IBC) must be resolved before a permit is issued. The approval of plans and specifications does not permit the violation of any section of the IBC or any federal, state or local regulations. C(3): 1/A4.01:The duct penetrations thru the 2 hour fire rated floor require shaft protection in accordance with sections 707.2, 707.4, 712.4.1.3 and 716.6. Shaft continuity shall comply with section 707.5, 707.11 and 707.12. Duct penetrations thru the shaft require fire/smoke damper protection per section 716.5.3. Please update plans to indicate compliance. Notresolved 11-6-08. Fire dampers are not allowed in hazardous exhaust systems per IMC section 510.6.1 because the fire damper can interfere with the fume hood exhaust thus exposing occupants to the hazard. Since the shaft must have an unprotected opening at the bottom to accommodate the fume hood exhaust, the shaft serving the fume hood exhaust cannot have any other openings into the building per IBC section 707.11. A dedicated shaft in a different location may be required to resolve this issue. Also account for the roof deflection where shaft walls terminate at the underside of the roof deck. Not resolved 11-19-08. Please update plan C(4): The walls separating the lab from the I-2 hospital must extend to the underside of the deck above in accordance with section 508.2.2.1. Also, all doors between the lab and hospital must be self or automatic closing. Please clarify the extent of the new and existing laboratory space and verify compliance. Not resolved 11-6-08. A separation is required per Table 508.2. Since the building has a fire sprinkler system, a one hour fire barrier separation is not required; however the walls must extend to the deck above per section 508.2.2.1 and doors must be self or automatic closing. Resolved 11-19-06 per architect's response - new walls full height, existing walls full height per record drawings, existing doors self closing. C(5): Reference the EIFS. Since the building is non-combustible construction, foam plastic insulation must comply with either IBC sections 2603.5.3 and 2603.5.5, or section 2603.9. This is basically full scale testing in an end use configuration. Some systems have undergone the appropriate testing and meet these requirements for non-combustible construction. Please provide an ICC-ES report or equivalent for the proposed EIFS system to allow verification of compliance. The specifications do not appear to address this issue. Not resolved 11-6-08. The ES report submitted contains Several EFIS systems. Please clarify the system to be used for thisproject. All systems require a layer of exterior gypsum sheathing for noncombustible construction. The proposed exterior wall type calls for cement backer board. Please coordinate. Note the requirement for special inspection. The plans should clarify thespecial inspection requirements. Resolved 11-19-08 per revised A5.30 showing a layer of gypsum shea C(6): Reference the RP resin panels. Since the building is type I construction, non-combustible partition walls are required per section 602.2, except as allowed by section 603, chapter 8 or chapter 26. Please provide sufficient information to verify compliance. Resolved 11-6-08 per information submitted.
