Advisory Information:

. C(1): The following review is based on the 2003 International Building Code, the International Existing Building Code, and all documents thereto referenced, as amended. This review is not warranted for completeness and plan approval does not permit violation of these codes or other regulations or laws as may apply. 10/26/06 Corrections required. Unable to complete review, see comments for additional information requested. 4/3/07 Submittal reviewed. Corrections required. 4/26/07 Additional calculations and revised sketches were received by e-mail from Mark Burgois of Bratslavsky Consulting Engineers. These have been reviewed and corrections are still required. 5/3/06 Responsesn of 4/3/07 reviewed Corrections required. Engineer contacted as it was noticed that errors in original load calculations used higher wind speeds than required and correct values will reduce loads significantly. 5/8/06 Responses of 5/4/07 reviewed. Corrections required. 5/11/07 Responses recieved 5/10/07 revi C(2): The structural calculations submitted do not indicate that an additional load has been evaluated representing the "ballasted antennae" shown on the building plan drawings. Please submit revised calculations showing the existing and proposed loads, their locations with respect to the evaluated members, and the design stresses in the members under the proposed loads. 4/3/07 1. The submitted calculations indicate that little or no additional capacity is available in the steel roof joists. The additional weight of the platform, antanae, ballast and probable snow drifting are shown to exceed the capacity of the joists. 2. The redistribution of load by the deck may be overestimated and requires evaluation of the structural members relative rigidities for quantification. 4/26/07 The additional weight of ballast has been removed and the design indicates that the antanae will be attached to the roof structure. This will satisfy concerns over the roof joist capacity where adequate a C(4): No evaluation of the antennae and ballast system's resistance to forces prescribed by section 9.6 of ASCE 7-02 has been submitted. Positive attachment is required to preventexcessive displacement. 4/3/07 No positive connection between the added platform and the antanae mounts are indicated in the plan drawings. Friction is not appropriate for the resistance of siesmic forces. 4/26/07 Attachment of the roof deck for prescribed wind loads will satisfy the design requirements of ASCE7-02 section 9.6. See comment #3 for required corrections. C(5): Where LH series joists support other than uniform distributed loads, specific evaluation of member stresses is required by the Steel Joist Institute Standard Specifications for Longspan Steel Joists and Deep Longspan Steel Joists. 4/3/07 Specific evaluation has not been performed. Distributed loading assumptions have been used. Comment is advisory. C(6): 5/3/07 In the new plans, portions of the upper and lower decking have been eliminated. This creates a condition which can not be roofed, andwould collect water. Please revise sketch to provide a construction which can be roofed and shed water.
