Advisory Information:

. C(1): Reference foundation calculations. Please address uplift on grids A and G. Footings do not appear to have sufficient weight to resist the uplift from thebracing elements at these locations (31 Kips). Please provide design based on building reactions from the building designer. Same issue at grids 1, and 7. Note that only 2/3 of the weight of these elements can be used to resist uplift from wind forces, or 0.85 for seismic forces. No response to comment 10/23/00. C(2): Reinforcement Requirements. The area of longitudinal reinforcement for noncomposite compression members should not be less than 0.01 or more than 0.08 times gross area Ag of the section. Also, the minimum number of longitudinal bars in compression members should be four for bars within rectangular or circular ties, three for bars within triangular ties, and six for bars enclosed by spirals. (Section 1910.9) Reference drawing S3 - the pilasters do not meet this requirement. 2X2 pilasters require 5.76 in 2 of reinforcement minimum. The other pilasters are under as well. Please update the vertical reinforcement to comply. No Response to comment 10/23/00 JG C(3): Check anchor bolt length, size and embedment in calculations and on drawings per equation 1923.3.2 (Strength design) using maximum uplift as listed in calculations and reactions report. (97 UBC) 1923.3.2 No response to comment 10/23/00 JG C(4): Seismic calculations do not reflect the weight of the double layers of sheet rock on the walls. Please provide updated reactions based on actual weights of building materials, as shown on the architectural sheets. C(5): Please provide foundation calculations for review. Include all forces from the reactions report from the building manufacturer. Check all foundation elements, including, but not limited to; thrust resisting elements including lap splices and/or mechanical connectors, where saw cuts intersect the tendons, footing area and bearing with the soils report, pilasters for combined loading and seismic forces (see also comment 4 below), uplift from anchor bolts, uplift from wall bracing elements - all required foundation design. I cannot review the foundation design without the necessary foundation calculations. 1802. No response to comment 10/23/00. C(6): Drawings indicate horizontal hairpins with a 4 foot lap splice. The building code requires welded connections for 125% of the bar capacity (with weldable rebar), or mechanical connections good for 125% of the bar capacity. Please include this in your design, along with the requirements in comment 1 above. See code section 1912.14.3.4 and 1912.14.3.3 for more information. No response to comment 10/23/00. C(7): Metal building comments: C(8): Please make the parapet details, starting on page 14 of the calculations, part of the drawing package for construction and inspection. UAC 302.3. C(9): Please provide a complete reactions report for all grids, all lines, with the maximum forces to each elements for lateral and gravity design. No response to comment 10/23/00 JG. C(10): Please provide a complete reactions report for all grids, all lines, with the maximum forces to each elements for lateral and gravity design. C(11): Additional comment 10/23/00: Please provide 3 complete sets of drawings, with all details and necessary sheets, properly attached together, when all the rest of the comments are addressed.
