MMP GENERAL This review is based on the requirements of the International Building Code (IBC), and the International Existing Building Code (IEBC), 2006 Editions, and all adopted references thereto, as amended by the Municipality of Anchorage in Anchorage Municipal Code (AMC) Title 23. The following comments must be addressed before a permit can be issued. Approval of the submitted plans and specifications does not permit the violation of the Building Code, nor any Federal, State, or Municipal regulations. STATEMENT OF SPECIAL INSPECTIONS Please provide a detailed statement of special inspections in accordance with IBC Chapter 17. This may beprovided on the plans or as a separate document. Reference: IBC Section 1705.2 10/19/09 - Resolved. Statement provided on S0. MMP SPECIAL INSPECTION PERSONNEL Please provide a letter from the Owner/Owner's Representative, or Special Inspection Agency stating that the Special Inspection Agency has been retained by the Owner to provide special inspection services for the project as required by IBC Chapter 17. Reference: AMC 23.15.1704.1.4 10/19/09 - Resolved. Letter submitted via email. MMP DESIGN INFORMATION - SNOW LOADS Refer to Sheet S0. Please clarify the following: a. The exposure factor is noted as 0.9. Please clarify this, as the building is sheltered by the existing building on at least three sides. b. The thermal factor is noted as 1.0. Please clarify this, as the building is not heated, and appears to have a clear, vented roof system. Reference: IBCSection 1608.1; ASCE Section 7.3.1, 7.3.2 10/19/09 - Resolved. Sheltering structure removed from scope; revised notes provided. MMP DESIGN INFORMATION - EARTHQUAKE LOADS Refer to Sheet S0. Please note the spectral response coefficients, Sds, Sd1. Reference: IBC Section 1603.1.5 Item 4 10/19/09 - Resolved. Revised information provided. MMP FROST PROTECTED FOUNDATIONS Refer to Sheet S1.0. Please clarify the frost protection of the foundation system. It appears that the post foundations are sufficiently founded, but the slab appears to be unprotected. Reference: IBC Section 1805.2.1 10/19/09 - Resolved. Entire slab will be removed; insulation will be placed underneath and extent 8 ft. fromedge of slab. MMP POST BASE CONNECTION Refer to Sheet S1.0. Please clarify the following: a. The post base is subject to seismic loads. Please clarify the anchorage design in accordance with IBC Chapter 19. b. Please clarify the fastening methods (nails vs. bolts). Reference: IBC Section 1912.1; AMC 23.10.104.8.1 10/19/09 - Resolved. Sheltering canopy removed from scope of work. MMP BRACE DESIGN Refer to Sheet S1.0, Calculations. The calculations note the brace loads at 3.54 kips. There are no design calculations forthe 2x6 braces. It appears that the braces are overloaded. Please provide calculations showing the adequacy of the design. Reference: IBC Section 1604.2, 2306.1; NDS Section 3.6 10/19/09 - Resolved. Sheltering canopy removed from scope of work. MMP BRACE CONNECTION Refer to Sheet S1.0. The lower brace connection notes that (3) Simpson A35 are required to resist the lower brace forces. Please clarify the detail, as it is not clear how the A35's will be arranged to provide adequate load transfer, and meet the installation requirements by Simpson Strong-Tie. Reference: AMC 23.10.104.8.1 10/19/09 - Sheltering canopy removed from scope of work. MMP ROOF UPLIFT ANCHORAGE Refer to Sheet S1.0. Please provide design analysis and details roof uplift anchorage. Reference: IBC Section 1604.8.1 10/19/09 - Resolved. Sheltering canopy removed from scope of work. MMP NEW COMMENT - ANCHORAGE OF FREEZER PANEL Refer to Detail 1/AD-5. The detail calls for Hilti Kwik Bolt II post installed anchors. These anchors are no longer recognized by ICC, and no design values are given by the manufacturer. Please provide revised anchor specification. Reference: AMC 23.10.104.8.1 NEW COMMENT - MASONRY OPENING Please clarify the size of the existing masonry opening to the freezer. The architectural shows a 60 in. wide (measured by scale) opening. The freezer panel drawings note a minimum width of 63 in.
