Elevator 9 (Sullivan’s) responded correctly to the smoke detectors and recalled to the proper floors. Both heat detectors shunt tripped the main line disconnect for the elevator. Note, there is no sprinkler in this hoistway and therefore the heat detector in the hoistway is not required. Fire and Elevator Inspectors agree the heat detector should not have been installed and shall be eliminated. A primary factor in this determination is the lack of flashing hat with the activation of hoistway or machine room smoke detectors. Additionally the smoke detector is not required in the hoistway for this type of elevator and it may also be eliminated. Elevator 10 (Apple Store) Responded correctly to all initiating devices.
